Ah the New Year. It comes around so soon….so many memories from the last and dreams for the current. What will happen? Who will win? How will I do? It is impossible to know the future, but you can prepare for success. And shit loads of it.
I saw a recent comment here and some guy said..” this all sounds too much like some ‘life coachery’ stuff which makes me cringe , ( just some thaughts ,fly on the wall stuff , )”.
I freakin’ cringed myself reading that. Is that what I had become? Over the course of 4 years writing here I have shocked, thrilled, disappointed, inspired, saddened, bored and amused – but I never thought someone would take me for a “life coachery” type of guy.
And that’s when it hit me.
I had changed. I had changed as one year blended into the next. I had changed without knowing it. I thought I was the same. We all do for the most part. Unless you are consciously aware of personally developing yourself, then you think of yourself as the same old you. But you’re feicin’ not. No you are not. You are different.
Here is why. Time. Time changes you. You get older, wrinklier, flabbier and/or balder. Your opinions get moulded into your life day to day outlook. And for me that has meant I have become all “life coachery”. I am not ashamed of it. No sir. In fact I am happy for it.
You see, when I first began writing and doing videos here, I had a simple mission. It was to help at least one other person who is going through alcoholic or drug or addictive madness. That was it. I just wanted to help one person. Just one sad ould git who was struggling like myself.
At this stage I have had 45,000 people watch my videos. I have had almost 40,000 people visit my site. I have spoken to and emailed with hundreds of people trying to help them. I have taken this opportunity to big note myself because I need to justify what I have done here. To myself at least!
I am all about new beginnings. A new year is always a great place to begin. But if you missed the boat or have messed up your resolution already, then do not fret one more midget of a second. There is time. I heard a beautiful quote the other day and it is one I am going to stick to over the next 12 months. Tis from yer man who lives in the Himalayas, the Dalai Lama
“There are only two days a year when we can do nothing. One is called yesterday, and the other tomorrow. So today is the right day to love, believe, do and mostly live”
Love it. What a brain that man has.
Wouldn’t it be great if he could just rule the earth as a dictator? An omnipotent Lord of Peace. He gets my vote. Or what about them peoples in Bhutan where the fortune of the country is measured not by economic wealth or prosperity but by a thing called Gross National Happiness (GNH).
I kid you not.
This country nestled between Bangladesh and China measures the happiness of its people to find out if the Government is doing its job. Now I ask you, shouldn’t that be the way things are run everywhere?
Imagine the response in Ireland…..
I found this place last week (after deciding to finally go sober) and have cherry-picked a good few articles. As someone who has just stopped drinking and started writing I’ve been entertained and encouraged by your waffles, so thanks for that.
Cool man…good luck on the journey. If I can be of any help just let me know.
Cheers man, you’ve helped by writing all these articles but if you have 5 minutes take a read of my blog. You would be the first!
